''The understanding of electron-electron interactions is of prime importance to elucidate the emergence of intriguing properties in molecules and solids. The complexity may stem from the systems size, their open-shell character and the combination of intrinsically different building blocks. Using model and exact Hamiltonians, we will show how chemists's inspired methodologies can shed complementary light onto molecules and extended assemblies.''
