Présentation
L’institut Lumière Matière (iLM) est une unité de recherche CNRS-Université Lyon 1 localisée sur le campus Lyon Tech La Doua. Avec plus de 300 collaborateurs dont une centaine de doctorants et post-doctorants, l’iLM est un acteur majeur de la recherche en physique et chimie sur la région Auvergne Rhône Alpes, reconnu internationalement pour l’excellence de sa recherche.
Le continuum entre la recherche fondamentale, la réponse aux grands défis sociétaux et l’innovation est au cœur de la démarche de cette unité. L’ensemble du personnel s’engage pour promouvoir l’excellence et une recherche éthique et responsable.
Ses scientifiques explorent six grands champs thématiques :
- Matériaux, énergie, photonique
- Matière molle
- Nanosciences
- Optique et dynamique ultrarapide
- Théorie et modélisation
- Vivant, santé, environnement.
Sa plateforme technologique ILMTech, passerelle pour l’innovation, propose des instruments de pointe et une expertise au service des acteurs académiques et du monde socio-économique.
Les résultats de ses recherches conduisent à la publication d’environ 250 articles par an dans des revues internationales à comité de lecture dont la moitié avec des collaborateurs internationaux, et 6 brevets par an.
10 Start-Up et un labcom sont issus de l’iLM et le positionnent comme un acteur majeur de la Deep Tech .
15 projets européens, 80 ANR (Agence Nationale de la Recherche), 30 contrats industriels sont actuellement ouverts avec un budget contractuel de 8 M€ pour un budget consolidé supérieur à 20 M€.
160 stagiaires et 50 visiteurs internationaux sont accueillis chaque année faisant de l’iLM un lieu multiculturel avec plus de 30 nationalités présentes.

The Institute for Light and Matter (Institut Lumière Matière - iLM) is a joint CNRS-University of Lyon 1 research unit located on the Lyon Tech La Doua campus.
With more than 300 employees, including a hundred doctoral students and post-docs, the iLM is a major player in physics and chemistry research in the Auvergne Rhône Alpes region, internationally recognized for the excellence of its research.
The continuum between fundamental research, responses to major societal challenges and innovation is at the heart of the unit's approach. The entire staff is committed to promoting excellence and ethical and responsible research.
Its scientists explore six major thematic fields:

- Optics and Ultrafast Dynamics
- Theory and Modeling
- Living Matter, Health, Environment.
The ILMTech technology platform, a gateway to innovation, offers cutting-edge instruments and expertise to academic and socio-economic players.
The results of the research lead to the publication of about 250 articles per year in international peer-reviewed journals, half of which are with international collaborators, and 6 patents per year.
10 start-ups and a Labcom have emerged from the iLM and position it as a major player in deep technology.
15 European projects, 80 ANR projects (French National Research Agency), 30 industrial contracts are currently open with a contractual budget of 8 M€ for a consolidated budget of over 20 M€.
160 trainees and 50 international visitors are welcomed each year, making iLM a multicultural place with more than 30 nationalities present.
