High Resolution Spectroscopy of Alkali Dimers

Zeeman Spectroscopy of MH radicals

We study the magnetic response of metal hydride radicals NiH and FeH by laser excitation and Fourier transform fluorescence spectroscopy.  These molecules are of particular astrophysical interest, since they appear in sunspot and cool star spectra.

Frequency Combs

We study a novel Vernier coupling scheme of an optical frequency comb (femtosecond impulse train from a Ti:sa laser) to the multiple resonances of an optical cavity.  Our approach promises broad band spectroscopy (> 1000 cm-1) , rapid acquisition time (< 1s), and high resolution (0.003 cm-1).
