''Granular media, such as sand, snow and coffee, exhibit a wide variety of fascinating and complex phenomena. They segregate by size when agitated. They crush when squeezed. They are inherently multi-scale. They have mechanical properties that challenge our ability to them model analytically. In this presentation I will describe some of the recent advances in modelling these materials across scales, as well as new X-ray imaging modalities for measuring and characterising their flowing behaviour.''
